  • 0.5 cup heavy cream Full-fat heavy cream will give the richest sauce.
  • 0.5 cup beef broth Low-sodium beef broth allows you to adjust salt to taste.
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Adds a savory, umami depth to the sauce.
  • 0.5 tsp Salt Adjust to your preference after tasting the sauce.
  • 0.25 tsp pepper Freshly ground black pepper is recommended for best results.
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves Adds a fresh, aromatic finish to the sauce; dried thyme can be substituted, use 1/2 tsp.

Method
 

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mushrooms and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, simmer for 3 minutes.
  5. Reduce heat, add heavy cream, and stir until smooth.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Serve warm over steak.

This versatile sauce also pairs wonderfully with chicken, pork, or even stirred into pasta for a quick meal. For an extra rich flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine with the beef broth.
