An age-old recipe that combines honey, soy sauce, and garlic to create a sticky, sweet sauce that coats golden-tender chicken pieces.

I love to make this as a quick side dish for a handmade Chinese feast or to serve over boiling rice for supper. For suggestions on what to include in your homemade Chinese banquet, see my list further down the page!

Description

Sticky, tender boneless chicken thighs in a garlic, soy, and honey sauce. This honey garlic chicken is so simple to make, and it's ready in 25 minutes. Serve with rice for an easy-night fakeaway.

INGREDIENTS
  • 8 chicken thighs ((boneless and without skin))
  • 80ml 1/2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp cornflour ((cornstarch))
  • 110 grams (⅓ cup) honey
  • 4 minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoons pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • To Serve
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ teaspoons chilli flakes
  • boiled rice
Instructions
  1. Add the salt, pepper, and cornflour (cornstarch) to a bowl with the chicken thighs. Coat the chicken completely with cornflour by tossing it in it.
  2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan (skillet) over a high heat.
  3. Add the chicken thighs and cook on one side until golden brown, about 5 minutes, then flip the other side and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add the butter to the pan, let it melt, then add the garlic and stir together. Turn the heat down to medium so the garlic doesn't burn, then make the sauce.
  5. To make the sauce, combine the honey, stock, rice vinegar and light soy sauce in a bowl and mix.

  6. Add the sauce to the pan. Increase the heat and bring the sauce to a boil, then cook for 5 minutes until the sauce has reduced and thickened, and the chicken is cooked through.

  7. Sprinkle on the chopped parsley and chilli flakes and serve over boiled rice
