Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract or almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or sanding sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for even, consistent baking.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar for 2–3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla (or almond extract) and mix just until combined.
- Whisk flour and salt together, then gently fold into the butter mixture to form a soft dough.
- Optional: Divide dough and add food coloring for festive designs.
- Load dough into a cookie press and press shapes onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- Decorate with sprinkles if desired, pressing them lightly into the dough.
- Bake for 6–8 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes to firm.
- Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, avoid chilling the dough unless it’s too soft. Press cookies directly onto an ungreased sheet for proper grip and clean shapes.
