Description
A rich, savory twist on classic sloppy joes featuring caramelized onions, seasoned ground beef, and melty Swiss cheese—bringing French onion soup flavor to a quick 35-minute family dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook 10–12 minutes until caramelized.
- Add minced garlic and cook 1–2 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
- Toast hamburger buns. Spoon beef mixture onto buns, top with Swiss cheese, and garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
Slice onions finely to help them blend into the beef. Toast buns to prevent sogginess. Add red pepper flakes for a spicy variation.
